I will begin by saying that David Lerner is a very polished and entertaining speaker. His use of technology was well integrated with his manner of walking the room. On top of this, a wireless sound system was used to project the speaker’s voice effectively. Utilizing an array of speakers connected to a wireless receiver, and a handheld wireless microphone, every word was able to be heard clearly. Volume and clarity are both key factors for successful speakers. However, it was not so much the technical details which made this a good presentation, it was the presentation style. Mr. Lerner made several overtures to connect with the audience effectively. First, he was adept at using humor, which is often touted as a public speaking tool.

Mr. Lerner also connected with the audience by sharing details and experiences from his personal life. Humanizing yourself as a speaker should not be discounted; an audience is far more likely to “buy in” to a speaker’s pitch if they see him as one of their own rather than an outsider. Sharing stories that the audience can relate to is crucial, but a speaker must know the audience well enough to make this work. Wireless display technology is quickly becoming prevalent, even standard infrastructure for meeting rooms and classrooms across the globe. Making displays wirelessly accessible empowers the participants in a room to share information more freely and naturally, improving meeting results and productivity.

In the future when we look back, we suspect the evolution of wireless display technology from our current displays will seem obvious - the same way color televisions were a natural progression from the black and white sets. But, as the adage goes, hindsight is 20-20. Right now, as we live through the adoption phase, there's a gap between previous standards - i.e. the old way of doing things - and the new technology that will shape the future. As a provider of a wireless display solution, we want to offer an overview for those that may be new to the technology - what wireless displays are, what differentiates wireless display solutions, and how they are shaping the future of meetings and collaboration at the crossroads of our digital and interpersonal lives.

So what is a wireless display?

A wireless display is any type of display - i.e. flat panel LED, LCD, projector, video wall, etc. - that can be accessed wirelessly from a separate device - such as a laptop, tablet or smartphone. The vast majority of solutions available in the market operate over standard IP networks like WiFi. In other words, users join the WiFi network that the wireless display is attached to in order to connect. In general, today's enterprise solutions are separate consoles or dongles that plug into existing displays to make the displays wirelessly accessible.

At the most basic level, wireless displays enable users to share content from a device to the display without being tethered to the display by way of a video cable. If you've ever walked into a conference room to give a presentation, you probably had to plug an HDMI or VGA cable into your laptop in order to show your presentation up on the main screen. Wireless displays cut the cable in conference rooms, enabling users to present on the main screen wirelessly. But as we discuss in the next section, wireless displays also do much more.

What differentiates wireless display solutions?

Beyond cutting the cable, available solutions have fewer things in common than you might guess. Each solution has a unique approach to the problem and supports different features. At the highest level, we should distinguish between consumer solutions - that primarily serve entertainment purposes - and productivity-focused, enterprise wireless display solutions employed by businesses and education institutions. Consumer solutions are primarily used for streaming entertainment content like Netflix. These solutions are generally limited to one connected user at a time, and often have limited support for the various user device platforms, such as support for Apple AND Windows devices. A couple examples of these solutions include Google Chromecast and Apple TV. Ultimately these consumer products can be great for home/consumer use but usually aren't the best solutions for meeting rooms or classrooms.

On the other hand, enterprise solutions are productivity-focused and usually support a broader range of content (like business applications, presentations, etc.) as well as a broader range of user devices (like Windows, Apple, and Android). However even within the 'productivity-focused' category, there is a lot of distinction and variation between solutions in terms of features and the overall approach. Here are a few factors that we think are the most important.

Unlimited users with unlimited sharing

The single biggest factor that sets wireless collaboration solutions apart is the ability to support any number of connected users sharing any amount of content on the display simultaneously. Ideally, users would not be locked into a single person connecting and sharing or even quad view/sharing. Instead, users could connect and share any amount of content at once, supporting any type of meeting - from a single-presenter session, to an auditorium full of collaborators each sharing content simultaneously.

Customizable layouts and user control

In addition to supporting unlimited users and sharing, the ideal scenario would be to give connected users control of both the media content shared (e.g. any users can pause or play a video shared by another user) AND control of the layout of the content on the screen. Users could then arrange, move, delete, and scale content posts to achieve the layout that best serves their particular meeting. The result being engaged meeting participants and higher fidelity results based on user-controlled content and layouts customized for the task at hand.

Future-Proof Software Architecture

Solutions that are software based are able to add new features quickly and frequently and are accessible via over-the-air software updates. We think this is really important for an emerging technology like wireless displays because user requirements are still being defined. Additionally, the software-based wireless display solution leverages previous investments in the meeting room equipment and infrastructure, such as existing in-room PCs and WiFi/Ethernet networks.

How (and why) wireless display technology is changing the world

Changing the world? Really?? It's a big claim, but hear us out. The emergence of wireless display technology is really a product of other technology trends and market forces colliding, and it has the potential to result in the more natural integration of our technology into our work and interpersonal lives. Mobile computing in the form of smartphones and tablets is here to stay, and the 'Internet of things' phenomenon is now upon us. Soon, nearly everything that isn't already Internet-connected will be, including the appliances in our homes and the cars we drive. These two trends are driving the need for and development of wireless display technology.

Spending hours per day on our smartphones and tablets has made us experts at using our personal mobile devices as information resources. So employing those devices and skills in the service of meeting-room and classrooms productivity is an easy if not natural progression. What better way to do so than to transform those existing in-room displays into network-enabled collaboration hotspots that can be easily accessed from all those laptops and mobile devices?

With computers now in (nearly) every pocket, we're moving toward a culture of perpetual engagement. As a result, the traditional broadcast paradigm of displays supporting only a one directional flow of information has become antiquated. It has been replaced by the paradigm of the wireless display that is accessible and shared by multiple people for a more interactive and engaging experience.

Beyond productivity and entertainment, we see the potential for an interesting second-order effect on a social level as a result of wireless displays. Remember with the adoption of smartphones it seemed like everyone was always looking down at their phone screens instead of looking at the person right in front of them? We believe wireless display technology could bring mobile computing full circle by enabling users to naturally engage with their devices AND the person(s) in front of them at the same time via a shared wireless display. People likely aren't going to stop using their mobile devices, even when out with one another in public. But we believe wireless display technology can expand the use of mobile devices from solely isolated, private experiences to inform and enrich our shared, social experiences as well.

What exactly does the future of wireless technology look like? Only time will tell, but we're betting it's going to change the way we meet, collaborate, and relate with one another and our devices. Welcome to a world without wires.

Vast changes in Internet accessibility have given birth to wireless connections most anywhere. Wireless Fidelity (Wi-fi) still requires access points to be established and for a hotel to compete, these wi-fi hotspots are a must. Business professionals today are tethered to their offices by handheld devices, laptop computers and computer tablets.

Business people that travel between events, client meetings and branch offices often require overnight accommodations. The hotel that they select must have an easy and reliable access to the internet and if that hotel fails to deliver on this one element, that business person may refuse to stay there again. Therefore, wireless high speed internet in hotels is mandatory for any business event an event coordinator may be planning. Many business presentations today leverage rich media that requires wider bandwidths. Streaming video from the internet and graphic heavy presentations are very common. Hotel owners are always after higher guest satisfaction ratings and must stay on this cutting edge to satisfy the growing demand for more bandwidth.. It is the owner's responsibility to choose the best hotel internet provider for their location. In some cases, the entire network within a hospitality property may need to be upgraded to take advantage of greater connection speeds and wider bandwidth. The fast reliable wireless connections for the hotel business center are just not enough if you plan on accommodating business events at your property.

Sometimes business seminars and educational events may last 2 - 3 days. Some of these participants will choose to stay at your property during this multi day event. For these folks it is imperative that the wireless internet for guest rooms rivals the hsia for hotel meeting rooms. Wi-fi for motels is just as important for that weary traveler who chooses this option. Often a larger host hotel is surrounded by some of these smaller properties. Staying connected to check important emails, complete online reports and interact with the company's Virtual Private Network helps these seminar attendees conduct business before retiring for the evening.

Hotel management should have the network support team provide local wifi installation in their motel. Wi-fi for a business center is also an advantage for the hotel owner. A networked printer can be set up in these secure business centers for guests and visitors but they will still need fast reliable wireless and business center hotspots to connect with these networked printers. Nonetheless, to have the best internet connection either wired or wireless, business owners should consider the speed of the connection and choose the ideal internet service company that compliments your guest's satisfaction for the other areas of your operation.

There should always be wi-fi hotspots for hotel meeting space if you are trying to attract a business clientele. Wi-fi for meeting rooms is measurable and therefore billable to the client if you choose. Most businesses understand that bandwidth has value and most meeting planners expect to see these charges.

By and large, wireless internet connection is a necessity for business, your business and your client's business.

The short answer is yes.

Toastmasters can help you improve your presentation skills. Toastmasters has helped hundreds of thousands of people around the world improve their presentation, public speaking, and communication skills.

My Experience with Toastmasters

I joined Toastmasters to improve my presentation skills. I was a member for seven years. During that time I actively participated in meetings, on the executive, in public speaking contests and in the promotion of membership. I contributed articles, letters and tips regularly to Toastmaster Magazine. I presented at officer training programs, regional conferences and at two international conferences.

Membership in Toastmasters was a series of positive experiences for me. If you want to get the most from any organization or experience contribute and participate. This article is my opinion of my experience as a member of Toastmasters. As a professional speaker and presentation skills trainer I am often asked about Toastmasters.

What is Toastmasters?

Toastmasters is a nonprofit association primarily focused on improving the presentation skills of its members. Through participation in the administration of the volunteer structure Toastmasters also offers leadership development. Anyone can join. Pay your membership fees and you are a member. Volunteer to lead and you can be a club, area or regional officer. Naturally you will be expected to invest time, effort and commitment.

How does Toastmasters work?

The grassroots of this organization are the Toastmasters clubs. The number of members in a club can vary from 10 to 30. My club had approximately 25 members and attendance at weekly meetings varied between 8 and 20. A bonus is that after you join a club you can attend any other club meetings at no extra cost. I recommend that you visit other clubs to experience different perspectives.

What does it cost?

Membership cost is the sum of international membership plus the club costs. When I was a member the total annual fee was a few hundred dollars. Club costs are based on the cost of the meeting room. So if the meeting room is free, that portion could be zero. Many clubs get the use of company meeting rooms for free. In either case it's an incredibly inexpensive deal.

What is the Toastmasters formula?

Simple, practical repeatable systems. Each new member receives a study guide with 10 speeches that the new Toastmaster can work through. The idea is to focus their growth on specific presentation techniques and to encourage them to participate regularly at club meetings. That's the real key - attend and participate.

Toastmasters follows a system for improving your public speaking skills. You learn the fundamentals, are encouraged to practice, receive peer feedback and are warmly welcomed at every meeting.

The Key Benefits to Joining Toastmasters?

It's inexpensive. They have a proven record of success. You are offered a system of effective public speaking techniques. You will receive enthusiastic support from your club members. You will make new friends.

I don't need to tell you that PowerPoint and Apple's Keynote applications are probably your number one tool for presentations but be aware that what you see on your computer screen is not necessarily what you will see on a video or projection screen. Here are some important techniques and tips to consider when building your presentations for your next meeting, seminar or special event. Let your attendees get the most out of your hard work.

I have worked on countless programs that have used PowerPoint and Keynote as a major focal point for their sales meetings, award show celebrations and other events and I can't tell you how many times I've seen attendees struggle to see what they were invited there to see. Why loose your audience in the back of the room if you don't have to? One or more of them quite possibly could be your next company superstar but they missed your presentation because they simply couldn't see it and decided to play solitaire on their smart phone.

Lets add another layer to the necessity of reaching the attention of your attendees from the front row to the back row. With a phone or laptop, a wireless connection and a little social media at your attendee's fingertips, they may be posting in real time what a bore your presentation is. Not good. You can avoid much of this by following these guidelines when building your program for a projection screen in any venue or meeting space. You may have heard the phrase, "Presentation is everything." Never take this phrase for granted.

*Lets start with font / point size.

Here is a quick test you can try right now. Enter a sentence in your document in 6 different point sizes **(10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20). Then simply move 4 feet back from your monitor or laptop screen. Without straining or squinting your eyes, which is the smallest point size that is easiest or most comfortable to read? I'm going take a shot and say you chose a point size of 14 or 16. Keep your font size at 14 or higher and you will be on the money every time. If you can't see your text content at this distance, neither can your audience or attendees viewing it on a projection screen regardless of screen size. We call this The 4 Foot Rule. It's a good idea to have satellite plasma screens in exceptionally large venues but you really want to keep your guests focused on the action on your stage.

Understanding Negative Space

For many years I've had discussions with event planners in need of a solution for making very architecturally busy meeting spaces or pre-themed environments disappear and turning giant, daunting spaces into intimate environments with the use of lighting. Understanding the concept of negative space is the key and the same applies to your screen presentations. Direct your viewers eyes where you want them. White backgrounds with black text is not recommended. The white space overpowers your text. You want your presentation to be dynamic. You want to hold the viewers attention. Use dark backgrounds with high contrast text, put borders around your photos and don't clutter your slides. An image with a single line of text or a handful of bullet points is the most effective use of your slide real estate. It draws the viewers eyes to the exact content you want them to see without distractions.

Color

I'm going to cut to the chase here and say there are lots of web sites that discuss color schemes and the use of Primary, Secondary and Tertiary colors but for now, lets focus on what works on a projection screen. Color theory and colorimetry may be a topic for another day here. Take note, what you see here, the color saturation and contrast is not what you will see on a projection screen. **See link below for color image of this chart.

  • Blue text will not work on dark or black backgrounds.
  • Cyan text will work on dark or black backgrounds.
  • Green text will not work on dark or black backgrounds.
  • Yellow text will work well on dark or black backgrounds.
  • Orange text will work on dark or black backgrounds.
  • NEVER use red text on dark or black backgrounds.
  • Pink text will work on dark or black backgrounds.
  • White text will work best on dark or black backgrounds.
  • Here is one last secret for squint proof, easy on the eyes presentation. If you have an extensive program that you can't break up with images or you must have slides containing a paragraph of text, go to your color picker and use a very very light shade of gray.
Some very important additional tips.

  • Never use graphics that do not pertain to your message. The phrase "Less is more" in this respect is without a doubt, 100% true.
  • Stick to one font set in your presentation. Sans Serif fonts are best for projection screens as Serif fonts are meant to be used with more text (Like a paragraph or book).
  • Take a look at your favorite news program on TV and keep an eye out for how text is presented. Use it as a visual guideline. You will notice subtle movement such as swipes and fades, bulleted text and very minimal animation.
  • Use or create custom key slide / key frame backgrounds or background images. Stay away from using the backgrounds included with the software. Everyone on EARTH has seen them already.
  • Use the highest quality / resolution graphics and photos you can find. Don't acquire your images from the internet unless you know how to find high resolution images. Graphics and text decorations online are generally low resolution. Understanding some copyright law on using web images is a good idea as well.
Remember this:

Your presentation is not a stand alone document. If your slides are well crafted, your PowerPoint or Keynote document must require YOU, your narrative to have meaning. It is a tool to emphasize your key points, to add a bit of visual depth and possibly an emotional connection with your viewer to initiate action. It is a tool that ties a visual flow to your words, not the contrary. If it is more than this you have to much content on your screen. Put all of this together and you will have a successful presentation at your next event or meeting. Someone may even Tweet a nice comment about it back at the office.;-)

PowerPoint & Keynote Secrets For Projection Screen Success

Barco Device review

I will begin by saying that David Lerner is a very polished and entertaining speaker. His use of technology was well integrated with his manner of walking the room. Three video screens were used, Barco Presentation One large central screen and two smaller screens to allow the viewers at the peripheries to see the information clearly as well. On top of this, a wireless sound system was used to project the speaker’s voice effectively. The facility was a moderate sized convention center/ballroom, with a crowd that I would estimate at 600 people.

A microphone is an electronic device that convert sound into electrical energy and back into sound energy when it is transmitting out from the speakers. A wireless lavalier microphone is one tiny device that can be clipped onto your collar. It is usually linked to a wireless transmitter strapped to the belt or body. The transmitter will then link to the base wireless station.

This frees your hand and you will be able to use them for other purposes. They are commonly used by people giving presentations, bodyguards, backstage personnel and even professional singers giving a concert.

Here are some wireless lavalier microphone buying tips to consider while shopping for lavalier wireless microphone.

Frequency of Wireless Lavalier Microphone System

This is one important factor to consider before purchasing your microphone. This rule can be applied to other wireless products which you intend to purchase as well.

Ensure that the wireless system has a wide range of wireless frequency which you can switch to. If you are suffering from signal distortion, typically changing to another frequency will solve the problem. Hence, with a wide range of frequency channels, you will be able to solve your signal problem and indirectly increasing the wireless signal range of your wireless microphone.

Auto Scanning of Channels

If possible, purchase one wireless lavalier microphone system which is able to automatically scan for "un-congested" frequency channels. This will ensure that you are on the best frequency channel and will not be suffering from signal related issues.

Clarity of the Sound

Depending on your usage, this is another specification which you need to note before buying. If the system is used for a stage presentation, a microphone with small frequency range, 50Hz to 16kHz, is ample to allow the audience to hear the presenter's speech.

However, if you are using it for a concert or to sing a song, it is recommended to get an more expensive wireless lavaliere microphone which is able to support more frequency range such as 20Hz to 20kHz

Battery life of lavalier wireless microphone This is important if you are planning on using it for more than 2 hours. Common lavalier wireless microphone has a battery span of 2-3 hours. It is a common known fact that battery will lose their ability to store 100% of the charge rate over a period of time.

Hence, if you are going to use your microphone that you have kept for a long time in the warehouse, try using it on a full charge and check how long it took to become flat.

Certainly you do not wish to battery to be flat when you are giving an important presentation or while singing.

Another buying tip. Instead of buying those wireless lavalier microphone with 2-3 hours of lifespan, consider getting those which are able to last much longer at 7-10 hours per full charge. Although they are slightly more expensive, they could make or break the deal when you need it.

Simultaneous Connections to the System

If you are using for a presentation with a single speaker, a wireless system which has a single antenna to link to one wireless microphone is ample. However, if it involves an event like debate where several speakers will be speaking at the same time, the recommended guide line is to look for a wireless system which can handle 30% more simultaneous connections. This ensure that you are able to add in more connections for additional wireless microphone for speakers if needed.

Generally, buy one set of wireless lavalier microphone system which is customized for your needs. If you are using your sound system for demanding environments, be prepared to fork out money for quality product as they provide you with better sound quality, wider frequency response and more features.

Look for product specifications on-line and read the reviews of the buyers. From there, you will already have a clearer picture of how suitable the wireless lavalier sound system is suitable for you.

Public Speaking - Room Setup Makes a Big Difference

A wireless PA system is a tool that can save you hundreds of dollars in wiring and trenching costs in situations where you need to install a PA system in a pre-existing building.

PA systems are very common in auditoriums, churches, malls, construction sites, schools, and many business establishments.  The problem is that not all buildings were wired for system and retrofitting the building would be very costly and messy. Also, wiring gets old and may eventually stop working. This article will give you tips in choosing a wireless PA system that is affordable, easy to setup, and install.

Before you purchase your device, spend a few minutes of your time on studying these tips on how to choose the right one for your business.

1. Some wireless PA systems allow you to use your mobile two-way radios to send out voice messages to wireless speakers. These same two way radios can be used to reply to pages. That gives everyone full mobility.

2. If you have an existing wired PA system, you want to look for a system that lets you wirelessly interface to allow two-way radios to make pages over it.

3. Consider the size of your property.  If you have a farm or a big hangar, or if you have a large property, make sure that you select a unit that has good range.  You can get systems that can reach up to 2 miles away.

4. The loudspeaker of a wireless PA system usually is enough to cover up to 100 feet of space.  But if your area is too noisy, or you just want to widen the coverage even more, you should choose a wireless PA system that allows you to install two loudspeakers on a single unit.  It instantly doubles your coverage area without having to buy the complete set.

5. If there are obstacles that hinder your PA system from receiving signals, then you should also think about buying a unit that supports use of an external antenna that can instantly increase the receiving range of your unit.

6. Carefully plan where you are going to set up and install the unit. If you need to install a unit outside, look for a unit that has a weatherproof enclosure to protect it from the elements.

7. Since a wireless PA uses publicly available frequencies, you'll want a unit that lets you program codes to restrict transmission of signals outside of your network. With this additional security feature, only radios with the right coding are allowed access.

8. If your business requires the installation of multiple wireless PA receivers, go for a unit that has zone paging. A zone paging feature allows you to send your message in different locations without having to use multiple frequencies. This is possible because of a distinctive paging code can be set up on each unit.  With just a single frequency, you can send your message in just one area or you can send it to all units at once.

9. Feedback is the most common problem if the two-way radio is used in the same area as the PA system.  So if you are always mobile and still want to broadcast via the PA system using your two-way radio, then check if the wireless PA system is able to record incoming messages and play them back over the loudspeaker only when the talk button is not being pressed by the announcer.  There are commercial PA systems that allow you to record up to 20 seconds for playback after the message is received.

10. If you are going to use the system for emergency purposes, make sure you have one that has battery backup power so it can make pages even when the power is out.

A wireless PA system is a wise investment for any business that requires two-way communication to employees or customers. It is affordable and it can be quickly installed without tearing apart your property. Just follow these 10 simple tips and you are well on your way to buying the perfect wireless PA system for your business.

Sharing stories that the audience can relate to is crucial, but a speaker must know the audience well enough to make this work. Both the humor and personal connection set the audience at ease and allow for a greater capacity to listen and accept what is being shared without a highly guarded affect.

The presentation itself consisted of information presented orally through Mr. Lerner and other speakers, visually through a PowerPoint presentation, and physically through audience participation (question and response). This allows for the greater learning and interest, as it touches on multiple learning styles. The investment strategies discussed were put into simple terms and graphics which could be easily understood. The presentation was laid out logically in a manner that was easy to follow and built from the bottom up. Basically, there are three levels of investment to consider, base-level - safe investment with moderate returns, mid-level - some what greater risk and slightly higher returns and top-level - higher returns and higher risk.

The base-level should be the largest investment amount, consisting of the monies which cannot be risked; the housing, food, and health cost funds. I will not discuss the investment vehicles mentioned as this is not a sales article for the company, but rather a discussion of the presentation techniques used. The mid-level should contain less of the funds, but should only be invested in after the necessities have been covered with safe investments. This level consists of relatively safe investments but carries some risk of loss or lowered returns but a higher projected return. The top-level consists of the smallest portion of the investments, and includes stocks, mutual funds and potential high returns but much higher risk of loss as well. This level should only be filled with cash which can be lost without harming the investor's lifestyle appreciably.

As an MBA with an educational background in finance and economics as well as marketing, the strategies fit well with my own views and do make sense. However, even without that education, the presentation was clear enough and concise enough to be easily understood. I think that this was one of the key strengths of the presentation, it provided information which was interesting for knowledgeable participants but also simple enough for novices to grasp easily. It played effectively for the full range of the audience.

This explanation of the strategy was augmented with specific numbers on returns delivered by various product components. Here, audience participation was a key part of the presentation as well. Many audience members were clients of David Lerner Associates already and had investments in specific products. Their enthusiasm for the products and affirmation of the returns boosts the credibility of the presentation. Due to the numbers of people, it is not likely that they were plants, although that thought would cross my mind otherwise. I should also disclose that I was there because I know people who work for the company and I have the utmost respect for the character of those individuals.

Lastly, certain tools were used to keep audience members from leaving prior to the end of the presentation. First, food and refreshments were served prior to the presentation. This ensured that the participants were comfortable and not thinking about getting food or being otherwise distracted by hunger or thirst. Secondly, desserts were served, and coffee was made available at the close of the presentation. This allowed for the associates to mingle with the participants after the presentation to set up appointments and to discuss the presentation details. This reinforces to presentation and allows for clarification of details where needed.

It also attempts to lock in clients while they are still focused on the presentation material. Finally, a drawing was done at the close of the seminar, after the dessert and mingling, for several items. Only those present would be able to win items. Therefore, an incentive was given to remain in attendance until the end, and the vast majority of those who came for the presentation did remain. As noted, I found this to be a well done presentation and wanted to share these techniques, as they can be readily employed by others to enhance their own presentations and seminars.

What are Audience Response Systems?

Audience response systems are hardware and software combinations that allow a presenter, facilitator or instructor to add interactivity to presentations, focus groups, classroom lectures and other group meetings.

The hardware component typically comes in the form of a wireless hand-held keypad with 7 - 10 buttons that are distributed to each member of the audience. A receiver, or "base station," connects to the presenter's computer and collects data from the keypad entries. The audience response software also resides on the presenter's computer, and includes presentation capabilities as well as data collection and reporting functions.

How Do Audience Response Systems Work?

The facilitator advances through the presentation, which has been projected onto a large screen. Some audience response software packages work directly within PowerPoint, while others have their own presentation software integrated with the polling slides. The audience, which could range in number from 2 to 20,000, interacts with the presentation using the wireless keypads. Each presentation slide poses a question and offers several possible responses. When all participants have responded (or time runs out), the aggregate data is graphically displayed within the presentation for all to see.

Presenter can either track polling results to individual participants or allow all inputs to remain anonymous. Polling situations that involve voting or consensus-building typically favor anonymity. Classroom or training environments, however, often require the professor or instructor to capture responses in order to grade quizzes or take attendance electronically.

Because of its unique versatility, and its contribution to ROI, audience response is utilized across a broad spectrum of industries. AV production companies use audience response systems for large-scale meetings and conferences; corporate trainers use portable audience response systems for on-the-road employee training; universities and other educational institutions employ audience response technologies in both small classrooms and large lecture halls.

Audience Response Offers Many Unique Benefits Unattainable Through Traditional Presentation Techniques

These are just a few of the potential benefits:

  • Improves attentiveness
  • Increases retention of information
  • Offers anonymous polling
  • Provides tracking features to gather individual responses
  • Tallies and displays data immediately
  • Speeds up decision making
  • Emphasizes participant ownership of group decisions
  • Creates an interactive and fun learning environment
  • Gathers data for reporting and analysis
  • Confirms participant understanding of key points immediately
